You’re ready to archive your digital photos.
A digital photo is just data, so you’re making a copy of data – just like copying any file.
Cameras are easy. Either connect your camera to the computer with a data cord, or pop the memory out and use a card reader to connect to the computer. Either way, your computer should recognize the card as another drive. Select all of the picts and drag them into a folder on you desktop; back them up to a second drive or CD/DVD . Now you’re ready to reformat the camera’s memory card and you’ll have plenty of room to take more picts. If your camera gets lost/ stolen, etc. all of your favorite picts are safely stored.
A camera phone may be a little more difficult.Usually camera phone companies want you to upload to their site, so, often the phone software is proprietary ( that means the phone company makes you to pay to get your picts? ). Probably not. |

If the phone uses a memory card, and most do now-a-days, pop the back off, pop out the memory card and treat it exactly like a camera’s memory card. You may need to get a card reader to connect to your computer. |
No memory card? Do a Google search; more than likely someone’s figured out an easy way to get those picts onto your computer.
Just remember, your picts are now backed up, but if you clear the memory, you won’t have all those conversation pieces on your phone, so you may want to leave your favorites on the phone. Or you can copy the picts back onto the memory card — just make sure they are in the same folder on the phone and the same format.
Now, you’re only part way there.
Make sure you back up your files and save in at least 2 different locations. Chances are, that tornado isn’t going to hit 2 houses 40 miles apart at the same time.
